hearts beat in time until the beat turns time back to rhyme with what has to be said
digging deep in back of his head 

she is waiting on the edge of the evening she wants to move to manhattan so 
she can be released to seek refuge in warm currents of a city under siege
she wants to dance, take my hand, and feel the warmth knowing that i'll be there

she's willing to cross broken chords and colors to hold onto a promise of forever, but eventually she'll have to let go and move away from the slow burning hell of 48th street

how can she lay so many fears at my feet and expect me to sing new songs as the tenured rock of ages
raw religion takes two turns and twenty-eight times to step up tall towards the eighty-third floor
oh from such heights we would surely stand as giants among tiny diminutive mortal men
idols cast in snowy remoteness, just far enough outside so that we'd have to strain to look back in to see the revolution once again
